Exhibition text:This exhibition ‘Crescent Stack, Colour Block, Mosaic Sketch’ marks Martin’s first move into public space and installation, expanding his practice beyond individual artworks to consider the exhibition as an environment. Animal-like creatures repeat across strips of canvas, suggesting narrative. The wall painting provides openness, and gives the notion that the works continue to expand past the wall. Each piece was made within one session and the wall painting was improvised during install – a fast and un-edited approach to making that embraces accidents, where discovery becomes an important part of the work. The relationship between each component is just as significant as individual works – this is where new narratives and associations can emerge. Overall the exhibition shows Martin’s practice as a site of imagination and material exploration.
